Focus Izalco Team heads up

Saturday, May 19th, 2007

Somehow we’ve managed to secure a super limited number of the incredible “Izalco Team” Focus road bike’s.

This bike is AMAZING! We got one in for Stuart Hayes to train on and as it fleetingly passed through my hands I realised that it was quite simply an absolutely beautiful bike.

It’s the same full carbon Izalco frame as the ”Extreme” but comes specced with SRAM Force instead of Shimano and Mavic Ksyrium ES wheels as opposed to the German lightweights. I could not believe it when I pulled this thing out of the box, it is seriously light and finished brilliantly.

I’m hoping to get one to Procycling for a review, but the “Extreme” just got a superb write up by Marcel Wust anyway (review due in the July edition of Procycling), and it’s the virtually the same bike give or take £2k’s worth of wheels, a slightly different spec and a few grammes!

Like I said though, we will have a VERY limited number of these, and with £500 knocked off the RRP bringing it down to a particurlarly enticing price of £2k (compare this price to it’s matching spec peers!) for a bike like this, they will not be around for long.

Here’s some close-ups of that sublime paint job:

And the bike itself…

The Focus Arriba - urban warrior!

Wednesday, May 16th, 2007

Another month, another great Focus review! This time Cycling Plus have taken a look at the Focus Arriba from the crowded urban-bikes-for-around-£400 category so lets see how it got on…

“Understated, hard-wearing paint job? Check. Sensible functional equipment? Check. Sturdy, pothole-proof wheels? Check. The Focus Arriba certainly ticks all the boxes… but it does so at a price point where it’s going to find plenty of competition.”

C+ rated the ‘faultlessly constructed’ aluminium frame at 8/10, including the equally ‘impressively stiff’ forks but the handling is where the bike really shined.

“It might be the longish wheelbase and reasonably slack head-tube. It might be the solid frame and fork combination. It might be the slightly overweight wheels doing their gyroscopic thing. Whatever it is, this is one of the surest footed and most neutral handling bikes I have ever ridden.”

So with a 9/10 for handling it’s fair to say they were pretty impressed!

It’s specced out with high quality Shimano Tiagra/2200 components, fast and comfortable 700C wheels (Schumann Euroline rims, Shimano QR hubs & Schwalbe Speed Cruiser tyres) and superb Avid Sd-3 breaks and went on to score a nice steady 7/10 for both equipment and wheels.

The C+ verdict -

“If you’ve got £400 in your pocket and an urban bike in your sights, you’re not short of ways to spend your money. Hub geared and fixed options are available, as well as plenty of bikes with a similar type and level of spec to the Arriba. Lots of these bikes are pretty good, and the good news for Focus is that the Arriba is pretty good too!

Well specced for the money, comfortable and supremely stable. Ride-wise, it’s a lot more neutral than its sleek looks might suggest, and it’ll easily cope with much longer rides than a town commute - light touring is certainly an option. It’s not so much a dedicated commuter as a do-it-all machine, and certainly a good choice if you don’t want a big stable of single purpose bikes.

Handling is the highlight on this well-built and well equipped urban machine - 8/10.

Pretty impressive eh? Don’t forget the Focus Arriba is only £379, available with FREE delivery to most of the UK, we send it out, as with all bikes, Ready 2 Ride, and if you aren’t happy with the bike once you’ve ridden it (however unlikely!) you can send it back to us hassle free, within 7 days!

Still number one! Cheers!
