Di Luca

There was a stir of excitement last week at wiggle HQ when the new Briko Arrow helmets came in. The exact helmet that Liquigas rider Danilo Di Luca wore on his way to victory in this years 2007 Giro d’Italia. They are stunning looking helmets available in green, red, black and the signature Giro race winning colour pink.

If you are looking for a decent performance helmet you cannot go wrong with the Arrow - Extremely aerodynamic design and with a carbon cage for ultimate lightness. Not to mention the massive 37% discount that we currently have on it bringing the price down to only £79.19! At the very least you will know you are wearing it with good company!

Oh yea… we’ve also got the extra cool and lightweight shades he wears - the Briko Endure Pro Sunglasses AND they have 26% off at the moment too - only £59.39!

Stu Hayes leads the Corus Elite Series

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

Focus-sponsored triathlete Stuart Hayes had another great weekend and finished 3rd in the National Elite Championships at Bryn Bach Park in Tredegar, South Wales. Yet again Stuart was right up there for most of the race, he was the quickest in the water and in the lead for most of the cycle on his Izalco Extreme but in the last 500 metres of the run he slipped back to finish a still-very-impressive 3rd place just behind World Champ Tim Don and fellow Brit Andrew johns.

Stuart Hayes is now top of the Corus Elite Series which is awesome stuff - Well done Stu!

Signed World Champ jersey giveaway.

As a follow up to the Kona Golden Ticket competition we managed to strong arm Tracey and Fabien into signing some of the exlcusive “Golden ticket Monaco weekend” jerseys.

We had tons and tons of entries to the comp through the “purchase a product” entry route and got some very cool postcards from people entering via the “no purchase neccessary” route.

I’ve picked out my five favourite postcards and stuck them in a Tony Heart “Heartbeat” style gallery for all to see. Just for catching my eye I’m going to send these guys a signed shirt each.

Cheers for entering!

First wiggle “Golden Ticket” winner…

Wednesday, June 6th, 2007

Kona Wiggle Golden Ticket CompetitionSo I know the draw was a while ago but I have been waiting to get some official footage and photo’s from those involved, plus a nice write up from our winner too, in the first ever wiggle “Golden Ticket” competition. They’ve arrived and we are proud to say the comp went with a huge bang! Our winner, Robert Ling, of Bristol had a ball with Fabien and Tracey all weekend riding hard and enjoying the odd evening out as well. Here’s what he had to say:

Bob’s Dirty Weekend with Fabien

Friday - The Arrival

After experiencing the delights of the BA executive lounge, I touched down in Nice mid Friday with Paul from Wiggle to be greeted by my hosts for the next two days, Matt from Wiggle and Ben and Ian from Kona. After an amusing exchange with a very nice lady at the car hire place we were rolling down the lush southern French coastline towards Monaco. Into the hotel then soon back out for a meal and introduction to the many people involved with this trip and the other comp winner, Chris.

Saturday – Fabien’s Trails

Russ from Kona appeared at the hotel with a large truck stacked with bikes and soon we were off in classic alpine roadtrip style into the French mountains (via a quick detour into Italy but that’s another story). Arrived at the trails in Sospel mid day to be met by the man, Fabien and of course the fast lady, Tracy. My thoughts about being star struck soon went away – despite being ludicrously quick on a bike they are both very down to earth, sound people. We headed to the trailhead and spent the rest of the day riding, doing a few photos for MBUK generally messing about on bikes. It was brilliant to get tips from the world champ, just goes to show how wrong I’d been going all these years. The day ended with a fast muddy run down a series of endless switchbacks with flat out straight blasts in between, one to really get the brakes hot.
Saturday night saw us head into Monaco to marvel at all the super cars and motorboats littering the place, then a meal in the ? restaurant, which actually has it’s own ‘Fabien’ corner, complete with the ‘05 world champ winning bike hanging from the ceiling complete with original mud on the tyres – being a champ certainly has it’s perks.

Sunday – Kona Trails in Blalasic

A wet Sunday and we headed to trails that Kona use when they ‘want to impress people’ – I was impressed. Everyone jumped on a bike (all the Wiggle boys, the MBUK team and the Kona team, even their accountant). The place is basically a big valley covered in super fast trails. Spent the day solidly riding and constantly finding new lines, apparently you can ride there for days and not do the same line twice! After a series of fantastic runs and checking out Fab and Tracy’s photo shoot, I was back in the car to heading back to Nice airport still covered in sweat and mud. Collapsed in the departure lounge, tired and dirty after what was an awesome weekend.

When people talk about the trip of a lifetime it’s usually an exaggeration but I think it’s a fair comment in this case. From the wiggle boys highly amusing and non-stop antics, to Fabien’s superb riding style and advice and the best trails I ever ridden this was a truly special weekend. It’s another reminder of why riding a bike is just about the best thing you can do with you life. Now I just got to work out when I can get back to the Alps, Megavalanche here we come!

Here’s the official kona footage

And some shots taken by me, and don’t forget, I am by NO means any sort of photographer:

Keep your eyes peeled for a feature in this months MBUK

Wiggle would just like to thank EVERYONE involved in making this thing happen, it really was a brilliant start to what is looking to be a series of AMAZING comps.

Focus proudly sponsors top UK Triathlete.

Friday, June 1st, 2007

Focus Bikes and wiggle.co.uk are proud to announce a deal struck that will see top UK triathlete Stuart Hayes riding a Focus “Izalco Extreme” and training on a Focus “Izalco Team” for the next two seasons.

Stuart is one of the most respected triathletes in the UK, having competed on the circuit since he was 15 years old. The results speak for themselves; an amazingly consistent determined performer. The future is even more exciting now he is based in Loughborough training under Dan Salcedo, having previously been self coached.

He is one of only six athletes in the UK being funded by the UK Sport World Class Performance Plan and he is amongst very distinct company including World Champs Will Clarke and Tim Don, so as such, this has been an incredibly astute catch for the bike brand and ourselves. He has an extensive knowledge on bikes with riding being by far his strongest discipline.
