Alex Prince blog entry #4
Sun 24rd Feb
It has been a while since my last blog (forgive me!). I feel like I have been in a time warp and skipped a week, but actually it was just me feeling crap and not doing anything…I confess training has been a bit up and down (perhaps more down than up!). Be it the time of year or just being massively busy, but I have been feeling tired and a little de-motivated and not very disciplined about getting out for training.
That said I did a few runs without leg issues, and on 10th Feb came in a resounding 69th in the Dursley Dozen ( a very hilly off road 12 miler). I was reasonably happy with that as my first race for a long while, and come to think of it I cycled 45 miles the previous day, so all in all a good outing.
The following week I was suffering from a bit of a Feb bug (not as bad as man flu, but still pretty serious!). Training, Im afraid was nonexistent until the weekend when fantastic weather forced me on a Saturday morning off-road run (10 miles ish) and Sunday a wickedly fun Mountain bike ride on the South downs.
After a good weekend I then only managed one outing mid-week (a run) before Saturdays Devon Coastal Half Marathon. Conditions were great and I ran a steady race up and down a tough course. I don’t feel in great shape at the moment but was pleased to get round in 1 hour 50 mins (not too bad for the course). I celebrated with plenty of local Devonshire beer.
Generally I felt a bit run down and I reckon not pushing too hard right now is the best/only way. Hopefully training will resume to some state of normality soon…Although that may be after a brief interlude of a weeks skiing…Which should be great training for both legs and liver!
Osteopaths tips for February:
Common sense really but don’t push your body hard if you are feeling tired or ill. Training on an illness can be especially dangerous, or you may just run your body down physically so that illness or injury are far more likely. I sometimes feel lazy for missing a session or two, but it is better that way than risking your health and longer term goals.
