Moololaba
Wow I was amazed at the level already at the first world cup of the season in Moololaba at the weekend. With it being an Olympic year the bar is being raised yet again.
The pace was on from the gun as we ran into the sea from a beach start. I had a good start but I made a mistake on the side I started on as I found myself amongst the madness at the first bouy. I exited the water in the first half of the field and had a great transition I then worked hard at the beginning of the bike to get myself into the first bike pack.
It wasn’t long before all the packs emerged as one and we were then one big pack barring a few stragglers.
It was chaotic coming into transition but I managed to get out fast, running up the first hill in the lead group which included the eventual winner Xavier Gomez & Consistent World Cup podium finisher Brad K.
I was having a strong run and hung in for a solid 12th place, which is the best start I have had to the season in a long time. For me this means there should be a lot more to come. I’m pleased with the way I raced and am looking forward to another good performance this weekend in New Zealand at the ITU WC New Plymouth. I’m hoping I can get closer to the podium this weekend. I will keep you posted.
