We’ve been using and having a lot of fun with the Action Cameras ATC 2000 on our weekend outings and even on our daily commutes. We’ll be showing the results of these excursions on a frequent basis.
First up here’s James and Rob(not me, or the other one, but the other one) at the mtb course at Queen Elizabeth Country Park. Here James learns that it sometimes helps to pay more attention before fitting the camera to his handlebars.

Finally, my training seems to be shaping into something like a regular program again. With many interruptions in the early part of the year, it is nice to get some regularity back. I tend to be better off in quite a structured routine, and if out of that routine I find the self discipline and self motivation wane somewhat.
The knees seem to be holding out well now when running on the flat, but they still don’t like hills! So rather sensibly I pulled out of the last Coastal half marathon in Exmoor. Another race missed, but I would rather keep myself fit right now.
I have been running regularly on the flat. This is going OK. I am however, nowhere near the fitness I was hoping to be at this stage, and Im well off the sort of pace I would like to be. Well never mind, my training has been very stunted.
On the bike I have been feeling good. I have been getting out 2 to 3 times per week, and I feel quite good. I have been doing hill reps once a week and that has really been helping my strength up those hills. I have even had a few dry sunny rides (bonus!)
I have managed a more frequent showing at the regular club swim sessions. Now, I am a bit of a plodder but in my own special way I feel like it is going OK.
Im one of those swimmers that do much better in open water, in a wetsuit. (Yes, the annoying one with poor technique). So plodding up and down the pool, for me is fine for the moment. I shall enjoy it more getting in some cold water…soon!

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008Friday Game: Sailing Boat Competition
Friday, April 18th, 2008I think we’ve pretty much exhausted the bike game genre (as last weeks ‘unicycle’ game would show) so here we are testing the waters on the er, water side.

First Race Nerves
Thursday, April 17th, 2008I’m sure every racer goes through the same period, but right now I am quite nervous about my first race of the season; Wiggle Enduro 6, which is less than 2 weeks away.
I’ve not raced since October and I don’t really have much to gauge how well I am going at the moment. I have lots of questions racing around in my mind, but the one I want answering the most is ‘Have I got any faster?’ because for me it would be a disaster if I haven’t, or worse still what if I am slower?
Although I am nervous, I am really looking forward to the race. It will be the first time I’ve entered and it has a great reputation. The format is a little different to most other races, so I will need to fully understand the rules before race day and also have an idea of tactics. I’ve raced at Catton Park twice before and had good results both times so I know the course and it suits me quite well.
I think my training is going well, although coming from riding around 40 hours a week as a courier to training roughly 20 hours now does seem a little odd. I keep thinking I could and should be doing more, but the intensity of my training is much higher than work was. I don’t want to over-train as I know how disastrous that can be. Just like the saying, quality is better than quantity.
Tri247 Orca S2 Review
Thursday, April 17th, 2008Tri247 Triathlon website have just reviewed the Orca S2 wetsuit and it has come in with flying colours. The price, comfort, flexibility and fit were all commented on in the usual 247 no holds barred way.
Tri247 says: the old adage is that you get what you pay for and, given that you’ve only paid £99.99, we reckon you’ve probably got a bit more than that as well. With all the major suit vendors looking to get into the bottom half of the £100 to £200 segment with an entry-level suit in an attempt to satisfy the first time market it’s interesting to see how they differentiate their offerings from the S2. The reality is that there isn’t much difference at all - based on last year’s tests where all the suits swam to with a very small degree of difference we suspect the same will be true at the bottom end of the market. How much, for a novice, is that notional ten seconds worth? £30? £40? £50?
If you are looking for a cheap, first-time suit and you don’t want to pick up a second-hand one or hire for the year then S2 is made for you. As to whether it’s the right suit for you in terms of fit may be a different matter - fit is just as important here as it is in a £350 suit. Buying over the internet may be the only element of risk here if the size is wrong - but Wiggle’s policy on changing suits for a different size is the same as anybody else; just keep it in mint condition and mind those fingernails.

Focus Izalco Chrono close up
Friday, April 11th, 2008Emma-Kate Lidbury came down this week to pick up her new race bike - the Focus Izalco Chrono. This is the bike most our elite triathletes will be riding and so far we can’t get enough great feedback about it.
It uses the SRAM Red rear derailleur, and brakes together with a FSA Trimax Carbon handlebar and FSA Vision stem. An FSA SLK Pro crankset tranmits power to the Easton EC90 Aero carbon wheels making this an incredibly fast bike.
