Stuart Hayes Blog: Training state-side
I know it was not the strongest field at Blenheim but a win is always a good feeling, and they are not easy to come by, so it gave my confidence a boost. The Blenheim triathlon is a great event. It’s one of the most picturesque triathlons in the UK and with it growing every year, I’m sure it will be an international event soon.
I had a disappointing Des Moines World Cup finishing 14th; I was very ill a week before from eating bad eggs and I didn’t recover in time.
I have spent the last couple of weeks training in the Iowa area preparing for the LifeTime Fitness Triathlon in Minneapolis. I’ve been dong a lots of training with a friend of mine, TJ Tollakson, who is a world class Ironman athletes. He has been very good to me and let me stay at his mum and dad’s house, with its own Gym (with all the latest equipment) and a cinema room for relaxing, so I’m having a great time!
With the LifeTime Fitness series being non drafting, I have had to change bikes from my Focus Road bike to the Focus time trail bike which I love. I’ve stared to spend a bit more time in the saddle as I know how much time you can lose during the race if you don’t have the biking legs.
After Lifetime I’m off to the Big Apple (New York) of the second round of the series and then back to the UK for National Champs and then the London Triathlon.
