USA Coast to Coast update: Tuesday and Wednesday…
Tuesday and Wednesday…
This is going to be functional, to the point and without surplus.. We’ve just had the hardest day you could imagine cycling in temperatures in excess 120 farhenheit… My body was actually failing when we canned it for the day.. It was unbearable and a real reality check for me. We really need to change our tactics for these conditions so tomorrow we will resort to starting at 5am, resting from 12 until 4, then going again until late into the night… Thank God we’ve got decent torches and thank God for Pip and De… The last 30 miles took us the about the same time as the first 70…
Total for the day was a measly 120 miles.. We must do better, but that was not to be for today.. We had maxed out.. I have never in all my years of endurance, whether at work or play, put myself through something like that.. God knows how I’m even managing to do this…
We actually started from Oceanside yesterday, dipped our wheels in the Pacific and shot off due East. The guys from Garmin had programmed all of the USA onto our unit which meant we had a quick and easy way out of the city. We set off alone various highways to get a quick 50 under the belt, heading for Lake Henshaw, arriving there some 3hrs later..
Matt had 2 punctures which is my sweep-stake choice for the ride.. Routine on arrival at camp seems to be: Shower, food, kit, charge all appliances, drink lots of water,oj, gatorade, get weighed, bed… Oh and blog.. So tonight we are in a place close to Joshua Tree National Park.
Animals so far: 4 snakes, 1 cayote, 2 squirrels, 8 lizards and a yeti (we have other witnesses).. I’m off to bed under Doctor’s orders.. Matt is doing something on a roller for his IT band.. The youth of today and all that..!
Night, Andy..

Hi Guys,
Sounds like a hell of a challenge - I’m off next week on holiday but will be checking up on your progress if I get a chance to go on line. Best of luck for the rest of the journey, it’s an amazing thing you’re both doing!
