I have just one question for debate.
Were the GB triathlon team’s performances in Beijing disappointing?
That is not aimed as a criticism. As a triathlete( age-grouper) myself I know how high the Elite level of performace is, and have nothing but admiration for our top triathletes. It would be interesting to know how the team felt their races went, and what other triathletes think.

Heyaa Joe, I do competitive track racing at the velodrome in edinburgh and i have a sponsor you just have to train hard and race well. The only way you will get a sponsor is if you race competitivly, You have to get noticed. its all about being in the right place at the right time. Or if you really wanted a sponsor that bad you could write to companies, small companies local glazers or building companies ect.
hope thats helped thanks.

You are partly right David but it's not really jealousy of your chance to do well (she may ridicule your attempts to your face but is probably secretly proud) it's because she sees something else competing for your attention. The problem is, that to many women, bikes and training and racing are the equivalent of a mistress but in some ways a bigger threat than that because it's one they can't compete with, I know because I've been dealing with it for nearly 30 years! It is only fair to give your wife the opportunity to have time for her own hobbies and pursuits even if that is just shopping and relaxing but there comes a point at which people in a relationship have to accept that each has a life outside and that there has to be some give and take. I could say that you should try and make up for what she sees as a waste of time by doing a bit more DIY when nagged, take her out for a nice meal or buy her a treat occasionally but in my experience it makes little difference. So long as you contribute equally to the upbringing of the children (I'm afraid it doesn't get easier when they're at school it gets harder with school runs, after-school clubs etc etc), do your share of jobs around the house and realise that you may have to re-schedule odd training sessions, you are allowed your 'alone-time' and she must just accept it. If you stick to a regular training schedule that can be planned around it makes it easier. I found that by training first thing in the morning or last thing at night before the children are up or after they have gone to bed and so the rest of the day is basically free it was easier for my wife to accept. It takes some discipline but you have to make every minute of the day count and accept that other personal leisure activities may have to be sacrificed.

Hi,

How can I persuade my wife that I have to train a bit more now that all my children are at full time school? She seems to think watching jeremy kyle and walking the dog are viable alternatives to spending money on swimming and bike gear. I do spend a lot of time with my wife but now I feel my time to do well has come and she is maybe jealous, help me!
