Suunto Review Competition: Winners Announced

Monday, November 16th, 2009

At the end of September Wiggle paired up with Suunto to give away 5x Suunto t3c HRM Training Computers worth £120 each for our favourite reviews created during September! Well again we have been inundated with many fantastic reviews.

We have now chosen our favorite 5 winners, so without further ado here are the lucky winners and their reviews…

Winner 1

Ian Sutcliffe reviewing the Crono Fluid ElastoGel Trainer

Winner 2

Alice Eliott reviewing the Adidas Adistar Gore Ladies Jacket AW08

“I bought this jacket to run in, attracted by the brand, the style, the sale price and the colour and I was not disappointed. It is light weight and bright enough to wear running and cycling. The pocket for my MP3 is perfect and the length is good although it could be a little longer for a 5″11 woman.”

Alice Eliott

Winner 3

David Bishop reviewing the Ronhill Vizion Beanie and Glove Set.

With the autumn/winter weather closing in and me being a relatively novice runner, I needed to add a hat and gloves to my ever growing kit. I found the Ronhill Vision Beanie & Gloves to be the best value deal on the day I made my purchase and as they are Ronhill I figured I couldn’t go wrong. I made the order and received the goods in super fast time, but not as fast as I scoffed my complimentary Haribo – thanks Wiggle.

Checklist:
- Beanie? check
- Gloves? check
- Visible to others when dusky? check
- Reflective? check

I have worn the gloves on several runs and they have kept me warm and comfortable. The hat is yet to make its debut, mainly because its not really been cold enough yet, but partly because I may have to wait until the darker nights draw in to be brave enough to wear it in public.
Now, I bought the medium/large size and it might be that I have a strange shaped head…. but…. to be fair to Ronhill I think its safer to say that I make this hat look bad rather than the other way around. Don’t get me wrong, running is not about the fashion, but this noggin-huggin beanie crosses that line between acceptable and “hey mum what’s wrong with that mans head?”. Anyway, it’s practical right?!?
Also, I tried to take a picture of my hands but couldn’t get both in shot as I had to hold the camera… so I put the gloves on my feet and took a picture that way. They don’t fit as well as on your hands, but having kept them on under my desk I can say that they are toasty warm. I haven’t attached the picture as it could be construed as unsavoury.

Winner 4

Ian Harper reviewing the Focus Cayo Ultegra 2009

Having covered over 3000 miles on my hybrid in 6 months I had managed to justify the investment in another bike as I could be sure I’d get the use out of it. This would allow me to have a racer for pleasure as well as some commuting and my hybrid for horrible days commuting and the winter. Having never had a racer before I looked into it quite a bit and was very attracted by the 1 week trial money back wiggle offer. The reviews were good and the level of spec matched bikes around £2000. At £700 less it left me some cash to invest in some more kit and a nice new light for winter and still have some cash left over.

Winner 5

Tim Zimmerman reviewing the Descente Classic 3/4 Bib Tights.

“Having never owned a pair of knickers or knee warmers, after buying these I want more pairs of the style. As it turns out, knickers are a FANTASTICALLY versatile garment. They protect sensitive knees with less risk of overheating than with full-length tights. They are typically comfortable into the high 60s.

Though, a few aspects of specifically these knickers need to be addressed: The pictures don’t do justice to the extent to which they are blue. They are a kind of blue someone would exclaim, “Dang, now that’s blue” upon seeing you in these knickers.

They’re blue like winter is cold: it’s blatantly obvious, no-one should need it pointed out to them, yet everyone WILL remark on just how blue these knickers are”.Read More!

    nuun Review Competition: Winner Responses

    Monday, November 2nd, 2009

The lucky Winners of the nuun review competition have now been announced and we have some of their winning responses to share with you.

    Paul Smernicki

“What a week is has been in my house. New baby, new kitchen and now to cap it all, I find out my video review has won a £350 Nuun goodie bag. Happy days!

My winning review was for my iMagic trainer which has really come into it’s own this week as I’ve tried to fit in some sort of training around the new arrival. As well as all the benefits it brings in the rubbish British weather, it means I can use any spare minutes to head off to the shed and get some time in on the bike knowing that however long I’m there for it will be a solid session uninterrupted by traffic lights, cars or potholes.

One thing about the trainer though is that without a head wind, perspiration pools on the floor are a regular feature so having a years worth of hydration products at hand has come at a great time, especially as the new arrival has already developed a nappy habit that rivals my kit buying habit!.”

    Paul Smernicki

    Shane Levine

“When I received an email from Jason at Wiggle informing me that one of my reviews had been chosen as a competition winner I was ecstatic! I rarely win anything, in fact, I haven’t won anything since I was about 8 years old, so it was a very nice surprise.

I enjoy writing product reviews for items that I purchase – I only ever buy things that other Wiggle customers have reviewed, so I think it’s important for me to share my experiences too. Winning a competition for it just makes it all seem worthwhile!

I’d recently been complaining to my girlfriend about the fact that when I arrive to the office after my morning commute, I sometimes feel quite sick and light-headed. I’ve put this down to being quite dehydrated when I wake up and not having a chance to have breakfast or much to drink before I leave the house. I’m looking forward to adding one of the nuun tablets to my water bottle and seeing what kind of difference the hydrating nutrients make”.

    Carlos Sastre Lake Facebook Comp

We’ve had so many entries for the Carlos Sastre shoe competition that I haven’t been able to choose a winner so I thought I’d let you all decide! I’m going to post my favourite four on Facebook and the one with the most ‘Likes’ by Midday GMT this Friday 30th Oct will be the winner… sound fair?! The four are below but you must ‘Like’ them on Facebook via the Wiggle Facebook fan page to register your vote!

Carlos Sastre entrant 1 – Do you like Amanda Jane Wardell’s entry?

    Because I love CYCLING,
    I have ATTITUDE,
    I REALLY love his style,
    I LOVE shopping at Wiggle,
I ONLY want to improve my cycling,
I can SPELL his name with my answer!

Carlos Sastre entrant 2 – Do you like Richard Kirkcaldy’s entry?

After many years of chronic asthma, I bit the bullet and purchased a Focus Izalco Extreme from Wiggle in 2008. I wanted to get fit again and entered my first tri (London) a few months later. I’m doing a MA in Journalism at City Uni and now ride in daily. Now I want to complete an Ironman and then write about it to prove that illness is no barrier. I would love to do it in these shoes as I’m close to his size (5′9″ and 63 kgs) and also love Sastre’s restrained, intelligent style. No greater gift hath a pro cyclist than to lay down his hallowed shoes for such a noble cause….

Carlos Sastre entrant 3 – Do you like Neil Armitage’s entry?

    1. Because they would fit me.
    2. Because they would match my pink Lampre riding gear.I LOVE team gear!!!
    3. Because i went to the Tour De France and rode up the Mont Ventoux for the 2nd time to watch Lance, Alberto, Carlos, Bradley etc, so they would mean something to me!
    4. Because i have used my cycling and running to good effect and raised over £40,000 for charities since 2003 and NEVER used a penny of the sponsorship to cover costs!
    5. Because i own 2 Focus bikes and don’t stop raving about them to other people
    5. Because i buy all my bike gear down at Wiggle Rock!!
    6. Because i’m not good enough to actually win anything at bike racing so it might be my only chance to win something…..but my claim to fame is that i got dropped by Malcolm Elliott and Russell Downing!
    AND FINALLY……
    7. Because i would say a really BIG thank you for such a fantastic and unique prize!

Carlos Sastre entrant 4 – Do you like Martyn Gall’s entry?

I wanted to buy some flash Sidi’s
so decided to save all my pennies
    Im desperate for new shoes
so am missing out on the booze
and have been savin for ages
    always checking wiggles pages

So while lookin for quality soles
especially now my old ones have holes
I came across these fancy beasts
which made me fall to my knees
Im desperate to win these lovely lakes
signed by one of the greats

    So save me a packet
because I need a new jacket
and put me in the shoes of Carlos Sastre

Couple of weeks ago i got a call from Rob Spedding Editor from Cycling plus, Tells me I’ve won a trip to The Giro Di Lombardia do you want to go!!! Of course was my reply your taking your bike and will meet up in Italy with a rep from Vittoria.

OK two weeks later I’m on plane to Italy with a comp winner from Wiggle, James, Simon from Cycling plus and our wonderful host Amy from Wiggle.

Were met in Milan by Luca from Vittoria Tyres Italy, who was a fab guy and a great host.
Sat morning were driven to the start of the Giro and are met by Veronica from Mavic and are then placed with a couple of teams for the day. I went with Team Cervelo who treated me to an experience money could not buy and to help during the race with getting the food bags ready to give out on the food station was a real privilege.

I got see the finish of the race and the podium presentation brilliant finish to the day.

Sunday We took a nice ride along part of the route of the Giro Di Lombardia. Then up the hill to the Maddona Del Ghisallo, some spectacular views on route all 45 miles of them and great company to ride with, just did not want it to end but we ran out of time to the point our bikes ended up an official service car courtesy of Mavic.

Well mad rush to airport ensued and a constant pinch on the plane just a make sure it was all real and that i had just had one of the best times of my life

So if you want to enjoy a brill time enter the comps, just like James and I did.

Vittoria Competition : Giro di Lombardia Update

    Friday, October 23rd, 2009

At the end of September 2009 we picked a lucky winner to travel to Italy and enjoy a truly unique experience. Following on from the huge success this competition generated last year 2008, Wiggle teamed up with Vittoria to give away another once in a lifetime Golden Ticket prize! Lucky winner James Gerrard-Jones was flown out to Italy to watch the Giro Di Lombardia with full VIP access!

    Read his full report below.

I couldn’t believe my luck when Wiggle got in touch to tell me I’d won first prize in the Vittoria ‘Giro Lombardia’ prize draw. Literally a dream come true – spend the day watching the one day road-race over in Italy & then cycle part of the route on the following day. Could it get any better?

The ‘ride of the falling leaves’ as it’s nicknamed is a one day event running a 242km course around Lake Como and the surrounding hills.

Our hosts from Vittoria managed to place us behind the scenes with the teams who make it all happen. We had access to the team areas and could check out all the kit the riders were using – I’ve added this Cervelo to my Christmas list…

I was lucky enough to be in the Cofidis team car, I was imagining I’d be squashed in the back of the car but that’s where the mechanic sits, I had a place up-front next to the driver, truly a once in a lifetime experience. We were off at high speed as one of the Cofidis riders had a problem with their bike’s head-set and they needed assistance. Imagine being in a get-away car after a bank robbery – they drive exactly like that but also manage to eat / chat on the phone / make notes etc all at the same time.

After an ‘exciting’ start we settled into a steady pace with domestique riders dropping back to collect bottles for their team mates. One thing that struck me that you don’t really get when watching on TV was the sheer level of suffering these guys were putting themselves through. Sure they don’t go all out for the whole ride but when the group surges forward there are riders in there who are giving it everything just to not be dropped from the main bunch. Having said that I did catch a glimpse of Cadel Evans at one point (early on) and he looked like he was out on a light training ride, how fit must you be to make a ride like this one seem easy?
