Well it had to come to an end at some point. We were pleasantly surprised with the generosity and interest this auction generated. The lucky Bidder is Brian Lowndes from Walsall who placed the highest (£1240.00) bid in our online auction of cyclist Carlos Sastre’s yellow Tour de France jersey. I’m sure Brian will take great pleasure in having this Jersey as much as we did having it here at Wiggle HQ. Congratulations Brian.

Brian, Managing Director of Brian Lowndes Print Limited, has an interest in cycle racing and was an early member of the British League of Racing Cyclists who originally promoted mass start cycle racing in the United Kingdom.

Brian was also one of the early members of the Wulfruna Olympic Cycling Club in Wolverhampton. He said that the auction was an opportunity for him to give something back to a charity who promotes sport activities among local deaf children.

The auction of the 2008 Tour de France yellow jersey, signed and worn by the winner – Carlos Sastre – ended on 25 April 2009 and raised £1,240 for NDCS. The yellow jersey itself was supplied by the CSC & Wiggle.

All proceeds from the auction will fund a sports day for deaf children in Walsall in October this year.

It’s now live, the Tour de France 2008 Yellow Jersey auction for the Benefit of the NDCS.

RNID’s London to Paris cycle challenge

Multiple world champion and Olympic gold medallist, Chris Hoy MBE, is urging cyclists to sign-up for RNID’s 300km London to Paris cycle challenge and use their pedal power to raise vital funds for the charity representing the UK’s nine million people who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Chris Hoy says: “You don’t need to cycle at record-breaking speed – you can choose to pick up the pace or just enjoy a leisurely ride passed some wonderful scenery.”

Dave and Ben Sowden who completed the challenge in 2008 says: “RNID’s cycle challenge was a fantastic event and superbly organised. If you’re thinking of challenging yourself – go for it! It’s an incredible experience, and you’ll be raising money for a good cause.”
